TransitChek, an employer-provided benefit, is a tax-break for taking transit that both commuters and their employers enjoy. The TransitChek program helps employers reduce the cost of their employees' commutes in three flexible ways:

Employers can give employees TransitCheks in addition to salary as part of their benefits package. Neither the employer nor the employees need to pay taxes on the TransitCheks given as a benefit. And, the entire cost of the program is tax-deductible as a business expense.

Employers can allow employees to purchase TransitCheks through a pre-tax payroll deduction. Employees can protect over $100 a month from federal income tax and FICA taxes, saving them hundreds of dollars over the course of the year. And, employers save on the matching FICA taxes.

Employers can give a portion of TransitChek as a benefit, and allow employees to take a pre-tax payroll deduction for the remaining amount. It's the best of both worlds.

TransitCheks are vouchers that can be used to purchase tickets, tokens and passes for all major transit systems in the region, including SEPTA, PATCO, NJTransit, DART First State and Amtrak (monthly commuter tickets, only), as well as VPSI and Vanpool of New Jersey. TransitCheks come in denominations of $15, $20, $21, $30, $35, $60 and $65, and can be combined to reach nearly any amount in $5 increments.
